Getting Started

Children do not need shoes until they are walking confidently outside unaided. Pram shoes and ‘pre-walkers’ should only be used for special occasions if you think it’s absolutely necessary. When your baby is ready for their first pair of shoes, they should only be worn as protection for their feet: from harsh weather conditions, sharp objects, rough or slippery surfaces.
We believe that the best thing for little feet is being barefoot as they develop, strengthen and grow in a natural way.
We strongly recommended that you take your child into a shoe shop where professional shoe fitters can measure and fit his/her shoes.

We recommend you download the template and measure your child’s feet in cm. Ensure you measure both feet as they are often different sizes. Always fit to the larger foot and with that number in mind add from a minimum of 0.8cm up to 1.2cm for growth. If your child is under 3 years old, don’t add more than 1cm as bigger than that may hinder their walking. If your child has very narrow feet we recommend you to give no more than 0.8cm.

We actively search for brands that fit a variety of widths. Pediped, Livie and Luca are our widest fitting brands. Other brands with some wider fit styles are Garvalin, Salt-Water, Young Soles, Plae and Petasil.
Please refer to our Sizing Guide on each product as we will try to guide you as best as we can. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Measuring and Fitting

  • Begin by downloading our template here.
  • Place the template, heel closest, against a wall which your child can stand against. Using a pen or pencil, mark the length of the longest toe of each foot on the template.
  • Measure the length in centimeters and follow the size guides detailed on each product.
  • We use centimeters rather than sizes as our shoes are carefully selected from all over the world. Very often the sizes do not correlate to each other, the same size can measure differently between brands.

Please don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions. One of our fantastic team members will be more than happy to talk you through the process. We are available from 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 5.30pm Saturday.

  • Put the shoes on your child, watch them walk making sure their walk is the same as when barefoot, it can take a little while to adjust to the feeling of new shoes so give them a little time.
  • Check the shoes fit while your child is standing up as this when their feet are fully extended and at their longest.
  • To do this run your thumb over their toes and make sure they are not protruding and there is a little space between the top of the foot and the shoe. Run your fingers around the outside and inside of the foot making sure there is no bulging.
  • Check the fit around the ankle, making sure that the collar is not sitting directly on the ankle bone and is snug around the heel so that there isn’t much movement within the back of the shoe.
  • FInally they should have a space of no less than 0.5cm and no more that 1.2cm between the end of the longest toe and the end of the shoe.

If you are still not sure, please come and visit us at our shop and we’ll make sure you get the perfect fit.

Please let us know as soon as possible if your item is faulty and we will seek advice from the manufacturer on your behalf. If the fault is due to manufacturing we will offer to repair or replace the shoes. Please bear in mind that generally speaking any manufacturing defect will show up immediately or within the first couple of weeks of wear. If the shoes have been worn for more than that it’s always difficult to judge what is just excessive wear and tear and what is genuinely an issue with the shoes. Some children are very hard on their shoes and it is important to take care of your shoes and ensure they are maintained and used appropriately to maximize their lifetime.

About your products

We measure the shoes in centimeters (cm) to give you a more accurate fit of the shoe. We do this to try and standardise the sizing across all of the brands we sell.

We do recommend that you buy the shoes based on the centimeter measurement rather than relying on the UK size as this does vary so much between brands. We carefully select shoes from all over the world and you will see discrepancies on their boxes sizes as they differ from one country to another and at times within the same country, from one brand to another.

We try to show a representation of our products on the website but unfortunately due to our stock room size we can’t cater for all our styles to be represented online and instore. Please feel free to call us if you are looking for something in particular, one of our helpful team members will be very happy to assist and arrange postage if you are unable to visit the shop.
